W. Bellman English Tall Case Clock |
Broughton, Lancaster, England,
circa 1820's, polychrome painted steel dial with Arabic numerals, lunette
painted with crossed peafowl feathers and flowers, spandrels with geometric
and fans, signed on face W. Bellman/Broughton. Brass English bell strike weight
driven movement with original weights and pendulum. Inlaid oak and mahogany
case with bonnet having broken arch crest with original gold painted rosette
terminals and central turned finial with marbleized and floral spray painted
inset glass panels below arch with string inlay below. Cross banded tombstone
door with satinwood string inlaid edge, flanked by full fluted columns with
cast brass capitals and plinths. Waist with overlapping string inlaid door
with scroll cut top, cut-out with glass panel (later alteration), flanked by
fluted quarter columns with turned capitals and plinths, cove molding above
and below. Base with string inlay and chamfered corners with lambs tongue
terminal at bottom and stepped molding over bracket feet, all in old, likely
original varnish finish, pine secondary wood, 21 x 10 x 89 1/2" high. |

Two English Tall Case Clock Dials |
Both brass and signed, smaller
is signed Maple, London with engraved Roman numerals and scrolled floral,
circa 11" square; 2nd is signed Pattison, Halifax with raised silvered
chapter ring with unusually placed phase of the moon cut-out just above center
of dial, flanked by engraved birds and floral with engraved world hemispheres
above and applied open floral scroll work in spandrels, 13" square. |

knobs in original old varnish finish with divided interior and hundreds of
watch crystals, most with original printed paper labels, 19 x 11 1/2 x
16" high. |

Pine in old green painted finish
with most of the original brass knobs on the 13 graduated drawers, 15 x 11
1/4 x 26" high. Eight of the drawers are full of pocket and wrist watch
crystals, many with original printed paper labels intact, one drawer with
clock springs and one with boxes of watch parts, including a fine illustrated
Waltham Main Spring tin box with picture of the factory. |

wash, six graduated dovetailed drawers with brass wire ring handles,
dovetailed case, each drawer is full of watch parts, mainly English and
continental but also boxes labeled Waltham main springs,several silver fussee
chains for early English watches, one drawer is full of watch crystals, one
has 10 English pocket watch
movements, with enameled dials and most signed, other interesting small
advertising boxes holding parts, 12 x 15 x 14 3/4" high. Lot includes
photocopy of Briggs business in Norwich |
