Hattie Palmer Porcelain
Jardiniere on Stand |
Beautifully hand painted roses
with gilt scroll work on a fitted porcelain stand with paw feet, artist
signed "H.V. Young Mar. 1899" with porcelain makers mark of
"D&C France", 11" diameter x 11 1/2" high on stand.
Hattie Palmer was born in Ripley, Ohio in 1866 and studied painting at the
Cincnnati Art Academy where she studied painting and china painting. After
leaving Cincinnati she worked breifly in New Orleans before moving to Houston
Texas where she opened a studio until her death in 1933. In 1924 she had a
one person exhibition at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, other shows
included Oklahoma-Texas Exhibition, Wichita Falls, Texas; Fort Worth Museum
of Art; Texas Fine Arts Assoc., Austin as well as exhibitions in
Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Nashville. |

Lot of 4, all hand painted
French porcelain including a ewer with wisteria and gilt trim, artist signed
"H.V. Palmer"7 1/2" diameter x 5" high; and three plates
all hand painted floral designs, one artist signed, and one with her person
underglaze printed Studio mark, 6, 7 1/2, & 8 1/2" diameter. Hattie Palmer was born in Ripley, Ohio

Pair Royal Dux Figural Vases |
Porcelain with figure of young
woman in classical dress with arms upraised and a sheep standing behind her
and a young man also in classical dress with lyre and two lion cubs at side,
both signed on side of tree form vase "X-Raphanel". Both drilled
for lamps and part of the pink raised Royal Dux mark is still present, both
23" high. |

Lot of Artwork |
Includes: Three dry point etchings by William A.
Eskey, titles "San Gabriel", "Desert Clouds", and
"San Fernando Mission." All pencil signed, "W. A. Eskey" lower right, and titled
lower left. William Eskey
(California, 1891 - 1937) fought in France during WWI and studied art
there. He made his first dry
point etching in 1928 while a patient in the Veterans Hospital in San
Fernando Valley. Trees were often
the subject of Eskey's etchings. Two 6" x 4 1/4" oil on board paintings by Renouned Irish
artist E. L. Bryce, one titled, "Lough Carrib - Connemara" and one
titled "Ballynahinch - Connemara." One cut-out silhouette of two swans mounted
on 9" x 11 1/2" cardstock, stamped on verso, "Mrs. Marg.
Baumann's Art Silhouettes Postfach 105 Eisenach Th. Germany." One dry point etching titled,
"Eucalyptus Grove", and pencil signed "H. R.
Williams." Homer Ross
Williams (California, 1901 - 1954). One etching pencil signed, "Wm. C. Ulrich" lower right and
titled, "Trees" lower left. Lastly, one etching titled, "Sospel" in the plate, scene of
the old bridge that crosses the Beaver River in Sospel, France. Signed lower right illegible
signature. |

7-Pcs Victorian Parlor Set By
John Jelliff |
In walnut, including a large
triple back sofa, two closed back and arm upholstered gentlemans chairs, and
four upholstered open back and arm ladies armchairs. Decorated with carved
rosettes, vining floral scroll work and engraved floral designs, drops at
corners of crest rails and arms, bow front seat rail and turned legs. The
sofa is 77 1/2" long x 28" deep x 47" high, while gents chairs
are 44" high and ladies are 41" high. All in original varnish
finish, the sofa and gents chairs are in red tufted upholstery, while the
ladies is in original cream colored upholstery. John Jelliff went into the
cabinet making business in on his own in 1853 in Newark, N.J. and the
business continued into the late 19th century. |

Gustave Herter Walnut Dressing

In renaissance revival style
with 34 x 58" central mirror with cove molded frame surround and broken
arch pediment with central plinth form finial with carved oak leaves in urn
over a winged cherub head, flanked by attached cabinets with canted corners,
thumb molded tops with left cabinet having single dovetailed drawer over
paneled door on right side that opens to reveal three dovetailed drawers.
Left cabinet with drawer over door that opens to reveal two shelves. The
returned from cabinets to mirror have matching oak leaf relief carvings.
Signed on back of right return "G. Herter N.Y.", original hardware
and finish, paneled sides, 72" x 20 1/2" x 67" high. Gustave
Herter opened a cabinet shop in N.Y.C. in 1851 and then in partnership with
Chistian Herter and porducted some of Americas finest furniture of the period
1860-80. |
