Dorothy Pulis Lathrop
(Connecticut, 1891 - 1981) sight 11 3/4" x 9 1/2" drawing of small
squirrel in snow. Signed,
"D. P. Lathrop" lower left. Born in Albany, New York, Dorothy Lathrop was an illustrator,
printmaker, and woodblock carver. She specialized in animal subjects, wrote and illustrated several
children's books and also did impressionist landscapes. She studied at the Art Students League
with Henry McCarter, at the Pennsylvania Academy, and Arthur Dow at Columbia
University. She was the daughter
of Ida Lathrop, and sister of sculptor, Gertrude Lathrop. Member of the National Association of
Women Artist, the Society of American Graphic Artists, and the Philadelphia
Watercolor Club. |
