BANCROFT WOODCOCK COIN SILVER WASTE BOWL |
Coin silver waste bowl made by Bancroft Woodcock (1732 - 1817), Wilmington, Delaware. The bowl has beaded borders on a square base and measures 6" across and 4 1/4" tall. The base is 3 1/4" square, and on the outside of the base the cartouche "B. Woodcock 1792". There are initials "J.R.N." engraved on the bowl. It is possible the initials stand for Joseph and Nathaniel Richardson of Philadelphia, who Woodcock worked with. This is an important museum quality example of early American coin silver. Shown at the Historical Society of Delaware Exhibition 1976. 11 troy oz. EST. $1,500. - $2,500. |

Coin silver flatware set made by Cincinnati, Ohio silversmith C. Oskamp. This flatware set has a total of 65 pieces including twelve 7 5/8" large forks, twelve 7 1/16" small forks, twelve 7" dessert spoons, twenty-three 5 3/5" teaspoons and six 8 9/16" tablespoons. All pieces are beautifully engraved and have the company's earliest silver mark, the C & O in diamonds cartouche. Ca. 1850. All pieces are monogrammed "C.M.B.". Found in Hamilton, Ohio from family descendant stating this flatware set was from the family of Colonel Carlton Bates of Hamilton, Ohio. 61 troy oz. EST. $1,500. - $2,000. |

Kentucky coin silver spoon by David Huston Spears. The mark or cartouche D. H. Spears is illustrated in Kentucky Silversmiths by Boultinghouse on page 30 (#153). More history on Spears is on pages 257 and 258 of Kentucky Silversmiths. Spears started silversmithing in ca. 1815 in Carpenter's Station and moved to Springfield, Kentucky in 1820, where he stayed until his death in 1876. The spoon is 5 5/16" long and has no monogram.
