French, Emile Louis Picault
(1833-1915) with top 14”diameter round having high relief classical scene
entitled “”Olympias XCI Graet Syracusis Captivi”, signed below “E.
Picault-Expo ??? Arts 1863”. The tapered, column is in the form of papyrus stem
with three griffin headed scrolled legs with paw feet, in fine old brown
patina, 31.5”high. The 1863 date is likely when it was exhibited at the Salon
in Paris. |

EARLY ITALIAN MARBLE SCULPTURE
OF CINCINNATUS |
On carved and inlaid marble
stand with inscription on base reading “Statua Qintio. Cincinnato” (Statue
Quinctius Cincinnatus). The base is inlaid with three pieces of different
colored marble and carved with shells and scroll work decoration. Total height
24.75”. Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus (519 BC – 430
BC) was a Roman aristocrat and statesman whose service as consul in 460 BC
and dictator in 458 BC and 439 BC made him a model of civic virtue.
Cincinnati, Ohio & the Society of Cincinnatus are named after him. |

John Franklin Earhart (Ohio,
1853-1938) sight 11 3/4" x 16 1/4" oil on board painting. Titled
"Misty Morning" in pencil on verso. Signed and dated "Earhart
- 1910" lower right. Known as a Cincinnati landscape painter, wood
engraver, designer and painter. In 1892, he published "The Color Printer" after
working as a printer. He retired
from the printing business and devoted himself to painting landscapes at his
studio-home in Fernbank (Cincinnati), Ohio, beside the Ohio River. He exhibited at the Cincinnati Art
Museum. Beginning in 1900, he had
annual showings at the Art Institute of Chicago and at the Pennsylvania
Academy of Fine Arts in 1902. |

with laurel wreaths and blue ribbon bows on sides, all mounted on hard
stone/agate base. The dial is white enamel with black Roman numerals marked
“Van Ehmpes”? with key wind spring driven movement with slide on back to
close winding and time setting holes, likely French, 1.4 x 1 x 1.8”high.
Includes two antique keys. |

14". Provenance: Originally
from the estate of Harry E. Hoffman, (1924-2013) He graduated from Indiana
University with a B.A. degree, and began a tour with the US Air Force,
serving in the Signal Corps during WWII. Following his military career, Harry
joined the State Department, working in the Foreign service and purchased
much of his art collection during that time. He traveled around the world
extensively. Following his retirement from the Foreign Service, Harry retired
to Dillsboro in 1981. He was involved with the Contemporary Arts Center in
Cincinnati, Cincinnati Art Museum, and Indianapolis Art Museum. |
