This sampler descended in the
Rodabush family of Clermont County, Ohio. Decorated with polychrome silk on linen with from top to bottom;
alphabet in upper case letters in two lines over “Jesus permit my gracious
name to stand,/As the first efforts of an infants hands./And while my fingers
oér this canvas move./Engage my tender heart to seek thy love,/With thy dear
children may I share apart,/And write thy name thyself upon my heart.”, over
nice embroidered two story home with flanking wings, with willow and pine
trees, birds, flowers and fence with gate. Makers name may be above gate, but
not clear. All with vining scroll work flower border, 15 x 17”in period ogee
frame, 19.75 x 21.25”. |

rosewood and silver gilt ogee frame, 29.25 x 36.5. Thistle was the
unsuccessful Scottish challenger of the seventh America’s Cup in 1887 against
American defender Volunteer (Wikipedia 2013). |

EARLY WESTERN CHUCK WAGON
TOLEWARE KITCHEN |
A wonderful circa 1870 tin chuck
wagon kitchen with peeked top, with three large storage compartments in upper
section, with central one being for flour with sifter, above row of six
fitted cylindrical canisters for various condiments such as salt and pepper,
above ogee door, which opens by swinging up to reveal five compartments, the
central of which holds pan for sifted flour above. This is over two hinged
doors which swing outward to reveal two compartments, left having slots with
sliding tin trays and right open for storage of bread or other items, with a
maple cutting board in slotted compartment below these two. The right side
has an attached coffee grinder. Two steel bale handles at sides for carrying,
31.25”wide x 18.25”deep x 38.5”high. The roof/lid is hinged to allow the cook
to put flour in central bin and the ogee door has keyed lock, which also
locks lower doors. Made to sit on back of chuck wagon. |
