lambs-tongue terminals and sting inlay above front apron, all secondary wood

Native American carved burl bowl. 4" x 10 1/2" x 8 1/4" x 19 1/2". Vigilant was the
victorious United States defender of the eighth America's Cup in 1893 against
British challenger Valkyrie II. Vigilant was designed by Nathanael Greene
Herreshoff and built in 1893 by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company of
Bristol, Rhode Island. She was Herreshoff's first victorious America's Cup
defender design. |

pressed heavy card stock lidded case with original leather handle. |

Period William & Mary Chest
on Stand |
Circa 1700, mahogany with oak secondary wood, top with
thumb molded edge and two over three graduated drawers in top with hidden
spring releases for two top drawers. Each drawer has cross-banded and string
inlay and brass pulls, paneled sides. Base is a finely crafted replacement,
as with nearly all of these period chests on stands with nicely baluster form
turned legs and drop finials, with lilaid stretcher base and tuned feet. 38 x 29 3/4 x 59 1/2" high. |

profusely decorated with figures in 18th century dress, folksy columns,
compass star, and vining flowers on red ground with old over varnish.
Boot-jack ends with folksy columns that match those on front and lid,
original cotter-pin hinges and wrought iron keeper, lacks hasp, interior with
till, lacking lid, likely New England. Great small size. 28" x 14" x 16 1/2" high. |
As above & minor wear to
paint, and varnish has darkened, as expected, with minor dents and nicks at
margins, still Very Good. |
