Fine sandstone nude Indian squaw sitting on stump breast feeding baby with arms and legs crossed.  Nicely detailed.  Signed "E. Reed" on front.  Excellent condition.  18 1/2" h.  6 1/2" w.  8" d.  Found in Chillicothe, OH from family who knew and personally purchased from Popeye Reed.  This is a great original Popeye Reed sculpture.    Ernest "Popeye" Reed (1919-1985) was born in Jackson, OH.  By 1964 he was selling his carvings as tourist items by the road side.  In 1968 he was able to become a full time artist.  He began showing his work in various places including state fairs.  In 1980 Reed was featured in Folk Art Encyclopedia of Twentieth Century American Folk Art and Artists.  EST.  $1,000. - $2,000.
