271 Robinson Circus Silver Presentation Pitcher Robinson Circus Cincinnati Silver Presentation Pitcher Gorham coin silver with lion, anchor and "G" hallmarks over "510" over retailer stamp "Harry R. Smith & Co." This wonderful silver pitcher has full young woman bust in classical drapes on handle, Greek key and acanthus engraving, front with presentation inscription reading "Presented To/John Robinson/by/Faran & McLean propititers of the Cincinnati Enquirer/as a token of their/Graditude for his devoton & friendship/during the dark period of the last/Four Year/Cincinnati Sept. 7th, 1865". Pitcher is 8 x 6 x 12" high, total 25.50 ozt. John Robinson was the founder of the John Robinson Circus, out of Terrace Park, Ohio, at one time the largest American circus with the most animals in any show. James J. Faran & Washington McLean were co-owners of the Cincinnati Enquirer from circa 1840-65, and of course the "dark period of the last Four Years" refers to the American Civil War.   These Robinson family silver items were in the family for over 150 years. 272 Robinson Circus Silver Medallion Five Piece Tea Set Robinson Circus Silver Medallion Five Piece Tea Set Coin silver made by Wood & Hughes, N.Y.C., circa 1860 and marked "W&H/900/1000", includes coffee pot, teapot, lidded sugar, lidded creamer and waist bowl, each with two medallion portraits in classical Greek style, beautifully chased and engraved, includes five different medallion portraits, coffee is 11 1/2 x 5 x 12" high, teapot is 11 x 5 x 10 1/2" high, sugar is 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 8 3/4" high, creamer is 7 x 3 1/2 x 8" high & waist bowl is 5 1/2 x 4 1/2" high with gold washed interior, total weight 118.05 ozt.  Engraved initial "C.F.R." with date of 1860 on waist bowl. Not sure which of the Robinson family it originally belonged to, but appears to have passed to one of Johns children. John Robinson was the founder of the John Robinson Circus, out of Terrace Park, Ohio, at one time the largest American circus with the most animals in any show. James J.
