Elizabeth Nourse (Ohio/New York/ France 1859 1938) watercolor of an interior scene
with milk maids. Signed and dated
lower right, "E. Nourse, '85." Elizabeth Nourse, one of the premiere women of her time, was born in
Cincinnati, Ohio. She studied
under Thomas Noble at the Micken School of Art in Cincinnati 1874. Some of her early work shows the
influence of Frank Duceneck's techniques. She later studied in New York, then
traveled to Paris with her sister. In 1921 the "New York Herald" called Elizabeth Nourse,
"The Dean of American Women Painters." A wonderful watercolor by a superb
