Thomas Jefferson Craddock Folk

All over deep carving with birds
in flight, running squirrels, turtle, fish, snakes American flag, feathers
and much more with extensive carved inscriptions reading "Rosewell P. Flower of New
York"; "Thomas Jefferson of Va. Born April 13, 1743 Was
President USA 1801 To 1809 Wrote
Declaration of Independence Founder of University of Va. 1819 Died July 4, 1821 This Cane Was Cut Near
Jefferson’s Tomb", with original brass " ferrule, total length 35
1/2". Unfortunately little is know of this cane carver, even though he
made a large number of these fine folk art canes. Nearly all relate to
President Thomas Jefferson & the University of Virginia. Craddock was
born in 1845 in Albemarle Co., Virginia. A T.J. Craddock enlisted as a
private in the CSA under the command of General Thomas Rossner's Cavalry and
was wounded in 1863 at Hamilton Crossing. |

chromolithographed inset celo illustrated label titled "Minoru The New
Race Game. Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. Sole Makers John Jaques & Son LTD London.
King Edward's Derby, Minoru Leading", opens to divided compartments with
six 3" long x 1 1/2" high race horses with jockeys, all painted in
different silks and colors, plus canvas board, 26 x 36", folded in
polychrome colors on green field, plus 8 1/4 x 9 1/2" illustrated 4 page
booklet of rules, and a deck of cards with horses on backs. Box is 8
3/4" x 16" x 3" high. |
