cut out leather badge on front with "J. Watts de Peyster Hook &
Ladder TFD" in original red painted finish and original leather liner,
15" x 11" x 9" high. John Watts de Peyster, Sr. (1821-1907)
was an author on the art of war, early Adjutant General of N.Y.N.G., served
in Mexican and Civil War. |

FEDERAL PHILADELPHIA CARD TABLE
FROM BOSCOBEL HOUSE |
Federal inlaid Philadelphia card
table from the Boscobel House. Circa 1800-15 demi-cartouche-shaped top with
reeded edges above conforming frieze with cockbeaded apron, on ring turned
and reeded legs ending in turned feet, 35.5” x 17.75” deep closed x 29.5”
high. This table was sold at Sotheby Parke Bernet, N.Y. on Jan. 21st 1977 as part of the Boscobel
Restoration Society, lot 174. The table has a fine old polished finish with
great color and patina. The Boscobel house is one of the finest examples of
early Federal architecture in the county and was built circa 1804-07. Located
on land overlooking the Hudson in Garrison, N.Y. The home was begun by States
Morris Dyckman, a Loyalist, who made his fortune working for British
quartermasters during the Revolutionary War. States died in 1806 with only
the foundation for Boscobel in place. The project was completed by his wife
Elizabeth Corne Dyckman, who lived in the house until her death in 1823. Lot
includes copies of the Sotheby’s catalog and additional letters documenting
this piece. |

SAMUEL MCINTIRE SHIELD BACK SIDE
CHAIR |
In mahogany, Salem Mass, circa
1790 with carved shield back centering three pierced upright splats carved
with leafage, above a serpentine seat on square tapered legs, seat
upholstered in black silk, seat height is 18.5”, 22.5” wide x 18” deep x
38.75” high. The chair has a fine old polished patina and was sold at
Sotheby’s sale 4076, Feb. 4th 1978, lot 1332 and
includes copy of the catalog page from the sale with the chair pictured. |

A wonderful period mirror in
mahogany with satin wood string inlay, scroll cut ears and lower crest, top
with gilt broken arch top with floral rosettes, surmounted by a wonderful
spread winged gilt eagle clutching ribbon banner, floral gilt drops at side,
original mirror glass, 20” wide x 44” high. |
Lower scroll crest replaced,
otherwise fine condition. |

Set of 4 18th Century American
chairs with carved cabriole legs, with nice pad feet both front and rear, ox
yoke crest, vase form splat with gadrooning along bottom, nice old finish,
circa 1760, seat height is 17”, 22.5” wide x 22” deep x 41” high. |
A few of the knee returns are
well carved replacements on three, and slight splits in two splats, otherwise
fine condition. |

back with gilt carved floral crest, splat also gilt and floral carved with
shield, balloon form seat rails with side rails mortised through rear stiles,
like was done in Philadelphia and N.Y., stop fluted turned and tapered legs
with gilt, slip seat, seat height 17”, 18.5” wide x 17” deep x 41” high, in
old refinish with nice rich color. |
Some glued splits in splat, old
re-gilt, and glue blocks replaced, otherwise, fine condition. |

Mexico/Pennsylvania, 1904-1984) 24" x 19" harbor scene mixed media
of gouache, watercolor and pastel. Signed lower left "Hurd" and
dated "46". Born in Roswell, New Mexico in 1904. Hurd attended
West Point Military Academy and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. In
1929, Hurd married Andrew Wyeth's sister, Henrietta, and moved to a ranch in
New Mexico. During World War II, Hurd worked as a correspondent to Life Magazine. |

Original red surface with three
separate paint decorated panels of tobacco leaves on a step-down base with
colors consisting of yellow, black and red, all with a incised outline. Molded top with mortised thru bead
board ends. All on finely turned
feet. Found in period farm house
in Southern Ohio. Similar blanket
chest by the same maker sold at Sotheby's showroom, Jan. 18, 2002, for
$75,500.00. This is a rare and
wonderful folk art paint decorated blanket chest. 28" high x 43 1/2" wide x 22
1/2" deep. |
