Arthur Bowen Davies (New
York/California, 1863-1928) 24 1/2" x 15 1/2" oil on canvas laid on
board of nude lesbian lovers. Signed lower left "A.B. Davies" and dated "1909". He exhibited in New York, with the
support of his dealer, William MacBeth, who had a show in 1908 which became
famous for the "Eight". Which was a show that included artists Arthur B. Davies, Robert Henri,
John Sloan, William Glackens, Ernest Lawson, George Luks and Maurice
Prendergast. Davies is famous for
his landscapes with figures, his early paintings were romantic and
emotional. |

seven decades, Marge Hoff was extremely well traveled. Hoff's Chicago work was almost
entirely figurative. Her approach
to figuration was deeply influenced by the Mexico painters of the 1930's,
whose work she encountered early and in person during trips to Mexico. |

OUTSTANDING 1820'S NEW YORK
WEATHERVANE |
Made of tin with crossed
feathered arrows, with cast zinc points, attached to tapered shaft with cast
zinc spear point above ball with spreading leaves, next section is urn form
over another group of tin spreading leaves, over another urn form section with
two leaf form handles, on square base, total height, 90.5”, mounted on a
stepped square wood base 12” high, total height 102.5”. This piece is
believed to have been from the firehouse/Town Hall in Cazenovia, N.Y.,
Madison Co. founded in 1793. A wonderful piece of American Folk Art. |
One arrow point chipped and
slight loss to square base, fine old patina. |

present in the Barry Family of Adams County, Ohio and remained in the family
until purchased by the current owner in the 1980’s. |
