with enameled dial with makers name and Roman numerals, white marble base and
gilt bronze case surmounted with laurel wreath with arrows, quiver, torch and
scrolled leaves. Domed body of case with fluted pilasters with acanthus leaf
border at top and base and scrolled ribbons terminating in bunch of fruit at
sides, and scrolled floral central panel. Marble with applied gilt bronze
floral friezes and ribbed gilt bronze feet. Brass time and strike spring
driven movement stamped "Raingo Freres, Paris," with gilt bronze
and glass bezel rear door, 7 x 20 x 25.5" high. Includes key and
pendulum. |

with figure of classically draped young lady/goddess, likely representing
Diana, reclining on foilage with Cupid at left holding arrows and torch,
title plaque reading "Reveuse". White marble base with applied bronzed
acanthus leaves, Cupid mask in center and acanthus leaf feet. Brass time and
strike spring driven movement marked "S.H. Paris", 19" x
6.5" x 16.5" high. Bronzed French metal is signed on back. The pair of urn garniturs have
Minerva masks and full figure of a young classical draped man and woman
seated at shoulder, mounted on matching marble base with matching feet,
17.5" high. |

scene of the poem, Ovid's Banishment from Rome. Signed, "E.
C. Coates, 1868," and "F.M. Turner" (after) lower left. Coates was primarily known for his
sea-landscape, history and portrait paintings. Listed as one of the Hudson River
School painters, he did numerous Hudson River Valley scenes. Collections holding his work inlcude
New York Historical Society, The New York State Historical Association, and
The Shelburne Museum. |
