1855-1932) 13" x 19 1/4" mixed media painting consisting of
watercolor, gouache, and pastel of a harbor scene. Signed,
"John Rettig," titled, "Veer-Zeeland," and dated,
"1905," lower right. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, John Rettig was a painter, set designer,
muralist, and modeler for Rookwood Pottery, along with his younger brother,
Martin. He spent many years in
Holland living in fishing villages. He studied at the McMicken School of Design, and the Art Academy of
Cincinnati with Frank Duveneck and Edward Potthast. A great painting by John Rettig in
untouched condition in original frame. |

Frank Harmon Myers
(Ohio/California, 1899-1956) 13 3/4" x 16" oil on board of winter
landscape. Signed, "Frank
Myers," lower right. Ohio
born, Frank H. Myers enrolled at the Cincinnati Art Academy in 1917, studying
with Frank Duvaneck and John Weis. Myers work includes portraits as well as landscapes and urban
scenes. His early paintings show
a strong sense of realism. In the
late 1930's, Myers interests turned toward painting the ocean. He moved to California in the 1940's
for health and artistic reasons, and remained there the rest of his
life. He served as president of
The Carmel Art Association in 1953. Myers' paints are i the National Museum of American Art in Washington,
D.C., The University of Cincinnati, Museum of New Mexico, and The Irvine
Museu. |

in Richmond, Indiana before eventually moving to California. |
