Matthew A. Daly (Rookwood Artist, Ohio, 1860-1937) 9 7/8" x 13 1/2" oil on board of river landscape. Matthew Daly was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and studied under Thomas Noble and Vincent Nowottny. Later he studied with Frank Duvaneck, whom he considered his inspiration. From 1883 to 1903, he worked as an artist at the famous Rookwood Pottery Company. After that he became a director and chief designer for the United States Playing Card Company. In 1890, Daly helped found the Cincinnati Art Club. Good condition. |

John Ellsworth Weis (Ohio, 1892-1962) 16" x 18" oil on canvas of pier scene. Signed lower right, "J.E. Weis" and dated '28. John Weis was born in Powell County, Indiana. He moved to Cincinnati at the age of nine. At age 14, he enrolled in night classes at the Cincinnati Art Academy. He studied under Duvaneck, Meakin, Hopkins and Wessel. He was a member of the Cincinnati Art Club and the Cincinnati MacDowell Club. Well listed artist. Few minor scratches, otherwise good condition. |

Richard Veenfliet (Illinois/Michigan, 1843-1922), sight: 6 1/4" x 11 3/4" watercolor on paper of cattle with milk maid. Signed lower right, "R. Veenfliet". Richard Veenfliet was born in West Germany. His family emigrated to the United States in 1849 living in Detroit and Flint, Michigan, before settling in Blumfield Township, Saginaw County, Michigan. Veenfliet attended school in Blumfield, Saginaw and Detroit, where he studied architecture. In Saginaw in the summer of 1863, he took drawing lessons from a Mr. Haugh and the following year enlisted in a Michigan Infantry in the Civil War. After the war, he worked as a laborer, salesman and as an architect in the 1870's. In 1884, he moved to new York City where he took a job as a foreman of the art department with Frankmann Bailey & Blanpy. He died in 1922 painting at his easel one of the many watercolors for which he is well known. Good condition. |

Likely born in England, Daniel Grose lived in Canada in the 1860's and in Washington D.C. in the 1870's and 1880's. His uncle was English landscape painted Francis Grose. Several of Daniel's landscapes are in Canadian museums. He also painted in Maine, The Hudson River Valley, the Rocky Mountains, California including Yosemite and Connecticut. Good condition. |

During the 1930's, he immortalize the sport of polo for many with his illustrations for Peter Vischer's Polo magazine. Brown also did catalog and sporting illustrations for Brooks Brothers from 1920 for nearly forty years. Good condition. |

Matthew Albert Miles lives and works in his studio-gallery loft in the Chelsea Flower District of New York City. Miles studied at colleges in his native Pennsylvania, Ursinus as well as in Colorado and Wyoming. He studied at the Art Students League in New York City under the tutelage of Frank J. Reilly. While Miles is inspired by renowned impressionists, he brings individuality to his work, which is expressed in a technical strength and in the mastery of color. Abraham Rattner (New York/Pennsylvania/France, 1893-1978) 24" x 17 3/4" mixed media portrait of an elderly man. Signed lower right, "Rattner". Studied architecture at George Washington University, Washington D.C., with painting classes at the Corcoran School of Art. He had begun study at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1917 before the war interrupted the endeavor. After the war, he attended the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris as the result of a traveling fellowship from the academy. He would later meet Claude Monet when studying in Paris. Rattner was stylistically attuned to Georges Rouault and Pablo Picasso. Good condition. |
