JEAN RAHMIEL OIL PAINTING OF
CHIRST |
A well detailed painting on
board of Christ with crown of thorns. Jean Rachmiel (New York, 1871-1954) was a painter who would later be
dubbed the "American Millet". His father, renowned landscape painter Alexandre Rachmiel, trained
Jean in drawing and painting. At
age 16, Jean studied at the Art Students League in New York City under George
de Forest Brush. In 1890, he went
to Paris where he studied under Jules Lefebvre and later at the Ecole des
Beaux-Arts under Leon Bonnat. He
was awarded the Salon's gold medal in 1910 for a painting entitled "Le
Braconnier". Many well known
American collectors would travel to Paris to purchase his paintings and
commission him to do portraits. |
