William De Garthe (Canada) Oil Painting |
William De Garthe (1907-1983,
Nova Scotia, Canada) 21 1/4" x 29 1/4" oil on board of harbor
scene. Signed
"deGarthe" lower left. De Garthe was a painter, sculptor, illustrator, author, and
educator. He is probably best
known for his paintings of marine scenes. Born in Finland, he immigrated to
Canada in 1926. Throughout his
career, he worked in many mediums including charcoal, pen and ink, and
lithographs; however almost all his works in museum collections and sold at
auction are oil paintings. De
Garthe taught at the Nova Scotia College of Art, belonged to numerous art
associations including Nova Scotia Society of Artists, Nova Scotia Museum of
Fine Arts, Nova Scotia Arts Council, and the Maritime Art Association, among
others. Well listed artist whose
works are in museums, galleries and private collections. |

Lew Miller (1883-1956, Ohio)
20" x 24" oil on canvas of impressionistic winter landscape. Signed lower right, "Lew
Miller." Miller studied
under noted Cape Cod artist, Charles Hawthorne. He worked in an impressionistic style
with a palette knife and painted all over the world. His most successful canvases, perhaps,
were those that he painted from his local midwest surroundings, including his
hometown of Van Wert, Ohio, and fall scenes in Brown County, Indiana. |

Clockwork Lark Lure |
Circa 1st quarter of the 19th century, made by
Alexandre Cochet, Morbier, France. This unusual hunting aid has brass fixed
key wind clockwork movement, housed in a geometric embossed plate steel case
in original dark green painted finish, with a top mounted arched hardwood
lure with inlaid beveled edged mirrors on three surfaces. 3.5" x 3 x 9” high. Case has two
hinged doors at sides to allow acess to movement. |

Two 18th Century French
Copper Plate Engraving Dioramas |
Each hand colored and titled on
rear in original silver gilt shadowbox and gold leaf frames. 12.2" x
16”. Titles include “Vue du Jardin de St. Ildephonse, en Espagne, prise a
droite” (View of the Garden of St. Ildefonso, Spain, taken right), which has
cut-out figures and architecture, lithographed view of the gardens with
mainly couples strolling the grounds, with a noble couple in foreground
standing in front of cut-out balustrade with vases of layered cut-out flowers
on plinths, and cut-out shrubbery to right. The second of the pair is
entitled “Vue des Cascades du Jardin de St. Ildephonse, en Espagne” (View Cascades Garden St. Ildefonso, Spain), which has cut-outs very similar to the above print as above. These copper plate engravings were published by
Basset in Paris circa 1760. |

art lap harp in mixed woods in fitted domed top wood case with inked
manuscript label on interior of case reading, “From Thacher M. Boyder, North
Chatham, Mass.” The harp has original polychrome painted surface with sound
board unpainted and is. 24" x 9.25" x 5” high. Case is 25" x 11" x 5.25” high. |

(Italian, 1853-1922) 42" x
30" oil on canvas titled "The Chimney Sweep". Portrait of
young sweep eating at table with coins, radishes and jug on table, sweep
tools hanging on wall to right. Signed lower right "A. Zingoni" and
dated "1887". Aurelio Zingoni was born in Florence. Influenced by
the earlier Flemish painters, his paintings reveal his sympatric observation
of nature and careful attention to realistic detail. He was best known for
rustic scenes of simple everyday life. |

gouache on paper depicting Palm Sunday. Signed, "Tiratelli C/Roma" lower right. Cesare Tiratelli was born in Rome in
1864 to an artistic painting family. He started his training studying under his painter father, Aurelio. His uncle, Pio Joris, was an artist of
international fame. He eventually
enrolled in the Academia di San Luca in Rome, but continued exhibitions with
his father. He won numerous
awards at the Academia di Belle Arti in Rome. He drew his inspiration from the
inhabitants and daily life in Rome. |

includes two porcelain cups and saucers, a cut glass whiskey flask with brass
threaded top, plus a second silver plated flask, a tea kettle with burner
stand, plus two matching tea spoons, plus mesh tea ball, plus silver plated
container with two compartments for different teas. A wonderful circa 1880 porcelain and
silver plated service for two, likely French, but unmarked. 6.5 "x 11" x 6.5”
