A wonderful box with quail
decorated paper over wood. Has
label inside lid, warranted nailed band, boxes made by Hannah Davis, Jeffrey,
NH. Davis was a well known New
England band box maker who lived from 1785-1863 and this appears to be one of
her more colorful boxes. Has
newspaper in lid and The Troy Whig, which appears to be dated 1835. Replaced 1892 newspaper in base of
bottom. Some rim damage to lid
and one small break to top edge of bottom. 8 3/4" h x 16 1/2" x
13" lid. |
