letter U on cylinder and right side of frame, just below loading slot with
cover, original double edged dagger mounted through cylinder, total length of
revolver when removed is 10", cane with grip is 34 1/2" long. |

CSA Army Confederate Telegraph

Partially
printed letter sheet headed Received at Richmond, Va. March 8th 1864 By telegraph from
Demopolis (Alabama), March 8th To General S. Cooper, A.V.P. General. And reading as follows:
The following dispatch received from Gnl. Jackson (either Henry R. or John
K.) dated Canton (Alabama) March 2nd 7PM. Enemy army sixteenth & seventeenth army Corps between
twenty five & thirty thousand Infantry and fifteen hundred Cavalry left
Canton that morning, after remaining three days. Sherman reached there28th
remained six hours & passed on to Vicksburg, leaving McPherson in
command. Sent back nine couriers in great haste to McPherson on 29th. Army moved
immediately towards Vicksburg, via Livingston & Brookville. Large number
of empty transports passed down the river to Vicksburg. Said to be to take
Sherman’s army up the river. Enemy destroyed railroad 8 miles below Canton.
In the county houses burned and provisions destroyed. Over two hundred of the
enemy killed or captured. Reverse reading: Ross Killed fifty five out of
seventy negro Cavalry near Yazoo City. Several small wagon trains taken.
Enemy destroyed 20 rail road bridges. Transports going down Yazoo river.

Two CSA Confederate Telegraphs
From Alabama |
The first is a partially printed
manuscript letter sheet signed by Major General Dabney Herndon Maury the then
commander of Mobile dated March 6, 1864 and reading: Thirteen vessels off the
bar, no firing this morning. Signed by Capt. John W. Riely. Riely was later a
part of General Longstreet’s staff. The second telegraph, also partially
printed manuscript is circa 3 1/2” x 6” dated March 17, 1864 sent to Richmond
from Demapolis, Alabama to J.A. Siddon, (James Alexander, the State Secretary
of War) and reading The plans of J.J. Pollard are all matured & ready for
execution, please send authority to vindicate & turn over the cotton from
evidence before I recommend that the dept continue. Docketed on reverse:
Contract without alteration having made his arrangements any change very
seriously interfere with his ---- plans a prompt reply is of the highest

Soldiers Letter 61st OVI |
A single
folded letter sheet (4 ¾ x 7 3/4”), unline with four pages of penciled
text, no cover, dated June 10, 1864. Reading the following with all spelling
errors retained: Dear Wife I take the favorable opportunity to write you a
few lines to let you known that I am well and hope these few lines may find
you and the little Daughter and little hopper Bill well I would like to see
the little babe and you and will. Well we have had a hard time of it. We have
been fighting and marching for 30 days & we have Drove the Seshers 80
miles capturing some and killing a great many of them. Our loss in the
regiment is three killed and 30 wounded the evening of the 25th we had a severe fight (Battle of New
Hope Church) was 28 miles from Atlanta we captured some and got a large
amount of tobacco and other things and got twenty thousand dollars I will
enclose one of the bills in this letter we are getting reenforced nearly
every day the to armys is not a mile a part & they are laying still but
dont no how long it will be so we have plenty to eat and plenty to do Well
dear wife you wanted me to send a name for the Babe you may call it Sara Send
if you liking some of its little silky hair Well I saw Perry Wright and the
rest of the boys that come from Captina they are all well You wanted to know
what general we are under It is old fighting Joseph Hooker general Williams
commanding the division and Colonel robinson commanding the Brigade. You can
tell Mary that my arm did not get sore she did not do it right (eight lines
faded) Direct yours 1 Division 3 Brigade 61 OVI by the way of Chatinoug ten. |

admitted as states at the same time they were the 39 & 40th states, so there
was never an official 39 star flag. |
