Important 1937 Cleveland Rams League Induction Letters |
The first letter is dated Feb. 23, 1937 and addressed to a Mr. Myron
Wilson. It reads in partial, Our
Cleveland Rams were admitted to the National Football League at a meeting in
Chicago, Feb.12-13. Meeting and
knowing these men, Tim Mara, NY Giants; Dan Topping, Brooklyn Dodgers; George
Marshall, Washington Redskins; George Halas, Chicago Bears; Potsy Clark and
Dutch Clark has inspired Mr. Marshman and myself to request the league
meeting be held in Cleveland next year to afford our stockholders the
opportunity of knowing what a really fine organization we are a part of. As to our present
activities we are contacting our draft players and have mailed offers to some
42 other college stars. We have
had the honor of entertaining football's greatest player, Ernie Nevers this
past weekend. Mr Nevers expressed
his desire to be with the Rams for the next 3 years. We hope to make this important
announcement within the next few weeks. (This is interesting in that Nevers
would have been 35 years old in 1937 and had not played since 1931) If you will note the schedule, we have
been blessed with probably the best in the league. Thanks to Homer Marshman to refused to
give ground to the old masters. The letter is signed by Damien B. Wetzel, General Manager, Asst.
Coach. The second letter is dated August 4, 1937, and acknowledges receipt of
$500.00 for final payment of stock. Its is signed Buzz Wetzel,
General Manager. Both letters
have wonderful Cleveland Rams letterhead. |
