(Pennsylvania/Germany, 1823-1916) 21 3/4" x 26 1/2" oil on canvas
landscape with river scene. Signed, "Paul Weber," lower right. Weber, a native of Germany, studied in
Frankfurt before immigrating to America in 1848. He settled in Philadelphia, PA
painting idyllic landscapes with rich detailing. He began exhibiting at the
Pennsylvania Academy of The Fine Arts, and remained a frequent
exhibitor. He returned to his
hometown in 1860 to work as the court painted to The Grand Duke of Hesse -
Darmstadt. He later returned to
Philadelphia, where he worked as an art instructor and showed his
paintings. |

Eliza Rosanna Lamb Barchus
(Oregan/California, 1857-1959) 16" x 24" oil on canvas of Mount
Hood in Evening. Signed,
"Barchus," lower right. Eliz Barchus was born in Salt Lake, UT on December 4, 1857. She married John Barchus in 1880 and
settled in Portland, OR where she studied with William S. Parrott. She became well known for painting
scenic spots in Oregon and California, such as Mt. Hood, Mt. Shasta,
Yosemite, and Carter Lake. She
had to give up painting in the mid 1930's due to failing eyesight, after 50
years, and thousands of paintings, over 7,000, by some estimates. Barchus died in Portland on December
31, 1959 at the age of 102. |

lake landscape scene. Signed,
"C. S. Gaylord," lower center. Charles Seeley Gaylord was born in Connecticut, attended Yale
University and was a friend of Hudson River Painters, Thomas Cole and Jasper
Cropsey. He died on October 26,
1892, when he was gored by a bull while painting a farm pasture scene. |
