on paper. Monogrammed and dated,
"1921," lower left. Signed,
"M. Louise McLaughlin," lower right. In 1879 McLaughlin founded The
Cincinnati Pottery Club, the first woman's pottery club in America. She studied with Duvaneck at the
Cincinnati Art Academy, she was the main competitor of Maria Longworth
Nichols Storer, who founded Rookwood Pottery. One of the originators of the art
pottery movement in the United States, she was the first artist in the U.S.
to implement the painting unde the glaze technique. |
