Edmund Darch Lewis (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1835-1910) 9 1/2" x 20 1/2" watercolor and gouache on paper. Titled "The Electra". Signed lower right "Edw. D. Lewis" and dated "1884". Edmund Lewis is best known for his marine watercolors. His works were first shown at the Pennsylvania Academy of Design in New York and the Boston Athenaeum. At times, the sales of his paintings exceeded all other painters in America, which made him one of the most financially successful artists in the 19th century.
