36 PHEBE LINDSLEY (CINCINNATI) NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER Phebe Ann Lindsley (Madisonville, Hamilton County Ohio, July 17, 1829-November 16, 1897) needlework sampler with alphabet, house, trees, birds and flowers.  "Phebe Ann Lindsley was born July 17th. 18-- worked this sampler AD 1840".  Partial stitching removed from the last two digits of the year of birth.  Family legend states the maker removed these two digits from all her dated works in order to conceal her age.  Good condition, sampler 18" h x 15" w. 800 1500
36A DATED 1848 NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER Leaves & vines around edges, two baskets of flowers near bottom.  Laid on linen on original wood back.  As found, two inch tear near top, backing split.  18" x 15 1/2".   100 200
