Dutch interior scene by Frederick Carl Smith (1868-1955 CA/District of
Columbia/Ohio/Norway). Frederick
Carl Smith was born in Cincinnati and studied at the Cincinnati Art School,
the Ohio Mechanics Institute, and the Academie Julian in Paris with
Bougereau, Ferrier, and Constant. For 17 years he worked in Washington DC and then moved to Pasadena, CA
in 1917. There he was active in
the Laguna Beach art community, and a founding member of the Art
Association. This painting
descended directly from the artist's family. Sight 28 1/2" x 36". Signed lower right. |

Oil on canvas landscape of
spring beech trees by William McKendree Snyder (1848-1930). William McKendree Snyder was one of
the earliest artist to paint in Brown County, Indiana in the 1870's. Snyder was born in Liberty, Indiana in
1848. He settled permanently in
Madison where he specialized in dense forests, especially beech trees. He studied in Cincinnati, New York,
and Philadelphia. Snyder fought
in the Civil War and survived the infamous Anderson prison-of war camp. Originally from prominent Madison
family. Signed, "W. M.

finish, shell and scroll carved pediment and lower drop, arched door with
carved fans in corners, steel dial in original painted finish with second
hand dial above center, both with “ST” in diamond and circle and lower dial marked
“Patented Feb. 15, 1876”. Brass time and date with day of week and month of
year reel dials set in lower dial, weight driven works with original pendulum and all three original
keys, 18 x 7 x 48” long. Purchased from original owners. |
