Pair New England Portraits on Wood Panel |
Husband and wife. The gentleman
is wearing a navy blue frock coat with gilt buttons and according to the
family was a ship captain, the wife is far younger than the husband and
dressed in blue dress with lace trim and seated in red upholstered chair. Each
panel is 7 x 9” and his is in ornate gold leaf frame with gold leaf oval
liner, and hers is in matching liner only. Frame is 15 x 17”., both are circa
1850. |

cleaned. |

Christopher Johns 1862 Oil
Painting of the Steamboat St. John |
The St. John was one of the top
sidewheel steamboats of its tiem. It traveled the Hudson River and was involved in a collision with The
Pluto in March of 1868. Currier
& Ives produced large folio prints of this fine steamer. Signed, "Christopher Johns
1862," in the lower left corner. A well executed painting of the time period. 11" x 15". |

flying U.S. flag with 35 stars, gilt and blue figurehead of winged serpent.
The company pendant flying about the U.S. flag is unfortunately not readable,
