Valentine
Bonhajo (Cincinnati, OH. 1855-1934) Ohio river landscape scene oil on wood
panel. 8" x 10". Signed lower right "Bonhajo" and
dated 16. Valentine Bonhajo was a
painter, lithographer, designer and art instructor, born in Germany and
active in Cincinnati (Hamilton) from the late 1870s until at least 1921. He attended evening classes in sculpture,
drawing, and design at the University of Cincinnati School of Design from
1876 to 1880, and from about 1888 to at least 1900, he and Herman Weber
operated a design and lithography firm; he also taught for more than 30 yrs.
at the Ohio Mechanics' Institute. His
watercolor landscapes, painted in the Cincinnati area, were shown in the
Cincinnati Art Museum's Annual Exhibitions of American Art in 1910, 1912,
& 1918. Fine condition. |
