William McKendree Snyder was one of the earliest artist to paint in Brown Co., Indiana in the 1870's. Snyder was born in Liberty, IN. in 1848. He settled permanently in Madison, where he specialized in dense forests, especially beech trees. He studied in Cincinnati, New York and Philadelphia. Snyder fought in the Civil War and survived the infamous Andersonville prison-of-war camp. Well listed artist. Very small patch to upper left corner, touched on a few branches.
