Asenath Carnes Browning 16" x 10" needlework sampler with cross stitching and button hole work.Signed "Asenath Carnes's Sampler June 10, 1829".This sampler comes from a Northern Kentucky direct descendant of Asenath "Sena" Carnes Browning.Sena married John N. Browning, a member of the strong Fleming County, Kentucky Browning family.Together, John and Sena had five children, Charles, Dorinda, Caroline, Frank and Minerva.Sena died on Dec. 16, 1872 and is buried in the Laurel, Ohio cemetery beside her husband, John, who died on April 13, 1849.Minerva and John's father Basil (born Jan. 3, 1755 - died Sept. 14, 1844) are also buried beside John.Family legend says that Basil was visiting John and Sena when he died.A great sampler from a prominent Kentucky family.Two small minor stains otherwise fine condition.EST. $600. - $1200. |
