French Musical Automaton Jewelry
Case |
With French open mouth bisque
socket-head doll in original pink and lace dress with bisque forearms, seated
at a Vernis-Martin style decorated harpsichord with cylinder box housed in
gilt wood box base with single drawer that plays a Mozart minnuet. Head
marked, "Paris 301." When operating, tune plays and figure

doll with bisque hands and forearms seated with Harliquin on bench, courting
with second Harliquin standing behind. When operating, all three heads nod and standing figure taps seated
head with rod, and cylinder box
on interior plays tone. Mounted
on mahogany trimmed cabinet with wonderful turned balustraid type gallery at
back, and three sides painted in folk art style with children, birds, and
florals. Fixed key winder on
front and off/on switch. Circa
1880. The figures are all in

rapidly repeating bass notes and special tuning that create an organ-like

French Musical Automaton Clock
Under Dome |
With J marked brass time
and strike spring driven clock movement, stamped with maker's mark and
"313." Porcelain enameled dial with ornate gilt brass floral
scrollwork surround with enameled highlights and attached hand painted porcelain
flowers, original matching pendulum. The gilt surround forms an archway
with two musicians in original outfits. A male violin player and female
quitar player, both French bisque socket-heads with paper-weight glass eyes.
Basic housing key wind cylinder musical movement with control buttons
on right side. When operating, they both play their respective
instruments and tune plays. Circa 1880. 9 1/2" x 13
1/2" x 26 1/4". |
Currently working, very minor
flakes around key holes on dial, dome is early 20th century replacement. |

gold bands, intaglio cut oval lid with gilt highlights, opens to reveal
singing feathered bird which turns, opens beak, and flaps wings. Hinged

French Enameled Singing
Automaton Bird Box |
The box has enameled scene
of 18th Century lady in red dress in swing, with two gentlemen admirers on
lid. All four sides with different landscapes, two with castles.
When operating, oval lid in top spins, and feathered bird pops up and
sings, opening and closing beak, turning and flapping wings. Includes
original brass key. In original marbled paper covered wood fitted box.

French Domed Musical Automaton
Clock |
Circa 1870 with brass spring
driven, marked "Japa Fuesa 4145," time and strike movement with
porcelain enameled dial mounted on ebonized ogee form base housing the
cylinder music box. The clock is set in a rock form surround with silk
branching flowering tree, with 4 songbirds in branches. The automation
includes a spiral glass red waterfall from which a fifth songbird bends over
to take a drink, and the central bird in tree, which flys from right to left.
Control knobs and key on the right side at base. Ex- George Theders
