Dorothy Gilbert Wilson (Oregon/New York, 1889-1988) 8" x 10" oil on board of a farm scene.Signed lower left "Dorothy Wilson".Dorothy Gilbert Wilson was born in Portland, Oregon.She went to art school at the Portland Academy.By 1908, she was a member of the Oregon Art Students League, studying under Frank DuMond.In 1909, she entered Well College in New York State.In 1913, she returned to Oregon and in 1914 she studied at the Portland Art Museum School.In 1918, she went to New York to study at the Art Students League.In 1921, she married artist Floyd Wilson and later they moved to Woodstock, New York.By 1934, her art became focused on Ulster County, New York subjects.By mid-1930's, she became an active participant in the WPA.Later in life she was still very active in the New York art scene.She died in 1988 at the age of 98.Fine listed artist.Fine condition.EST. $200. - $500. |
