Annie Gooding Sykes (Cincinnati, Ohio, 1855-1931) 14" x 19" watercolor of seascape scene. Signed lower left "A.G. Sykes". Annie Sykes was recognized for her colorful, impressionist-inspired watercolors. Throughout her career, she explored themes ranging from landscapes, flowers, and scenery of New England, Europe and Bermuda. She studied at the Lowell Institute in Boston in 1875. She moved to Cincinnati and enrolled at the Cincinnati Art Academy in 1884, where she studied under Frank Duveneck and Thomas Noble. She began exhibiting at the Boston Art Club in 1890 and the New York Watercolor Club in 1891. In 1892, she became a member of the Women's Art Club of Cincinnati, where she exhibited until 1923. Listed in Davenports, Fieldings, Mallett, Who's Who, etc. Fine condition. EST. $1000. - $3000. |
