Frank G. Applegate (Santa Fe, New Mexico, 1881-1931) 5 1/2" x 8" watercolor of buildings on a Mesa. Signed lower left "Frank G. Applegate". Frank Applegate was already a famous artist when he moved to Santa Fe in 1921. He was immediately drawn into the art of the Native American and Hispanic cultures and became a force in the Santa Fe art scene. Applegate and Mary Austin founded the Spanish Colonial Arts Society. He was known for his watercolors, paintings and ceramics. His art is part of the collections of Regis University in Denver, The Spanish Colonial Arts Society, The Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe and many others. He is listed in Davenports, Dawdy, Fieldings, Mallett, Samuels, Who's Who, etc. Fine condition. EST. $1500. - $3500. |
