JOHN ELLSWORTH WEIS (CINCINNATI, OH) OIL PAINTING |
John Ellsworth Weis (Cincinnati, Ohio, 1892-1962) 15" x 18" oil on board of pier scene. Signed lower right "J.E. Weis" and dated "1933". John Weis was born in Powell County, Indiana. He moved to Cincinnati at the age of nine. At the age of 14, he enrolled in night classes at the Cincinnati Art Academy. He studied under Duveneck, Meakin, Hopkins and Wessel. He was a member of the Cincinnati Art Club and the Cincinnati MacDowell Club. At the age of 22, he was offered a job on the faculty of the Cincinnati Art Academy. He held his position for 38 years. Listed in Davenports, Mallett, Who's Who, Fieldings, etc. A wonderful painting by a great Cincinnati artist. Fine condition. EST. $1000. - $2000. |
