9 HISTORICAL SURVEYOR'S COMPASS BY WM. DAVENPORT, PHILADELPHIA Early brass surveyor's compass by William Davenport (1778-1829) in original oak dovetailed case.  Accompanying this lot is a letter stating that this compass was used by General Nathanial Massie in surveying the town of Manchester, Ohio, in 1797.  Mr. Massie was a friend of William Ellison.  Nathanial Massie was the founder of Manchester, Ohio, the first settlement of the Virginia Military District and surveyed land with three Ellison brothers.  This instrument was most likely used to survey land in the founding days of Manchester, the fourth oldest settlement in Ohio.  Original retailers label and three Ellison names stenciled inside lid.  Detachable sight veins and brass cap present.  One bubble level broken.  Needle does not move freely.  Original stand accompanies this lot.  Case 15" x 10".  Dial 6: dia.  EST. $500. - $1000.
10 KIRKER HARDWARE (1870-1998) MANCHESTER, OHIO LEDGER WITH RECEIPTS Large early ledger with over 300 pages, most with early 1880's receipts from companies such as Oliver Plows, Wurlitzer, and Owens & Barkley, Maysville, KY.  Most receipts glued to pages.  18" x 12"  EST. $100. - $150.

12 1855 A. SMALLEY, ADAMS COUNTY, OHIO, LAND GRANT BY FRANKLIN PIERCE 1855 land grant for land in Dubugue, Iowa, with Franklin Pierce signature, believed to be Secretary signed.  Original seal.  Very good condition.  EST. $100. - $150.

18 1849 CHARLES DICKENS AUTOGRAPH LETTER 7" x 4" letter signed "Faithfully Yours Charles Dickens".  Framed with old etching of Dickens.  Torn left corner not effecting authentic signature.  EST. $500. - $1000.
19 ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING AUTOGRAPH LETTER Framed 5 1/4" x 3 1/2" eight page letter with original envelope addressed to Madame Bruen.  Letter is signed "Affectionately Yours Elizabeth Barrett Browning" and envelope is signed "El. B. Browning.        No female poet was held in higher esteem among cultured readers in both the U.S. and England than Elizabeth Barrett Browning during the 19th Century.  Her 1844 "Poems" inspired Robert Browning to write her and so began the most famous courtships in literature.  They were wed in 1846.  A great authentic letter.  3" oval engraving of Mrs. Browning also included.  EST. $500. - $1000.
20 1873 CDV ALBUM OF MASSACHUSETTS SENATE  51 CDVs with names and districts of most on separate list.  Excellent condition.  EST. $400. - $600.
21 PHOTOGRAPH OF 1905 OHIO ELECTORAL COLLEGE AND AUTOGRAPHS Large 16" x 21" photo of the 27 men consisting of the Electoral College including Governor Myron Herrick.  Accompanying the lot is 16" x 10" sheet with 23 authentic signatures of the photographed men including Robert Ellison, Manchester and Charles Taft.  Original oak frame.  33" x 28"  EST. $300. - $500. 
22 LINCOLN-HAMLIN POLITICAL FERROTYPE Double sided Ferrotype with Abraham Lincoln on the obverse and Hannibal Hamlin on the reverse.  Housed in wreath type frame with black velvet suspension ribbon.  Light rust spot to the left of Abe Lincoln.  EST. $200. - $500.
23 BACK & GRIEWE, CINCINNATI, SOUR MASH WASHINGTON MIRROR Embossed metal mirror with George Washington eagle, train, and ship.  The mirror reads "Drink Royal Flush Sour Mash and Norwood Rye, Back and Griewe, Cincinnati, O."  24"  EST. $100. - $200.
