Adolf Arthur Dehn (Brooklyn, New York, 1895-1968) 21" x 28" watercolor with gouache on paper. Titled "Winter Silence". Signed lower left "Adolf Dehn". Penciled on back "Winter Scene #1, Adolf Dehn 1962, 443 West 21, N.Y.C.". Adolf Dehn was born in Waterville, Minnesota. He studied at the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts and the Arts Students League in New York. In 1943, he won first prize at the International Watercolor Exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago. He attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago to study at the University of Louisville, Kentucky. Then he moved to Los Angeles where he attended the Art Center College of Design. There he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1972. He moved back to Kentucky where for ten years he taught drawing and painting for the University of Kentucky. William McKendree Snyder (Madison, Indiana, 1848-1930) 12" x 20" oil on canvas, titled "Indiana Beeches". Signed lower right "W.M. Snyder". William McKendree Snyder was one of the earliest artist to paint in Brown Co., Indiana in the 1870s. Snyder was born in Liberty, Indiana in 1848. He settled permanently in Madison, Indiana, where he specialized in dense forests, especially beech trees. He studied in Cincinnati, New York, and Philadelphia. Snyder fought in the Civil War on the Union side and reportedly survived the infamous Andersonville prisoner-of-war camp. One of Indiana's premier artists. Excellent condition and in original frame.
